Consult with a professional florist to find out what flowers are in season around your wedding date. This is important as a typical Australian summer’s day can wilt imported blooms very quickly. If your heart’s set on out-of-season flowers, you might consider a bouquet of silk flowers. Your florist will also advise on the size and shape of your bouquet. Your dress, body shape and colouring are all factors to take into consideration.
Your bridesmaids’ bouquets can be smaller versions of yours, or for the ‘wow’ factor opt for a complete contrast. For a flower girl, choose something easy for small hands to carry, or maybe a pomander of flowers for her wrist, or a simple circlet of flowers for her hair. The boys’ buttonholes and your mothers’ corsages should complement your bouquet. If yours is an outdoor ceremony, flower filled urns will add colour. And don’t forget the cake! Flowers can be stunning both as cake toppers and as decoration around the cake.
So, no matter whether your wedding theme is urban chic, country charm, or glitzy glamour, flowers will help set the mood. And after going to the trouble (and expense) of creating a bouquet that has helped shape the mood of your wedding, wouldn’t you like to keep it? Wedding bouquet preservation will ensure that you enjoy your posy for many years.
Modern wedding bouquet preservation technology has breathed new life into this fine art. Microwaving, freeze-drying, dehydrators, and glycerine flower drying kits are just some of the preservation options. Should you want to be showered with confetti as you leave your ceremony, then consider real freeze dried rose petals. They come in pretty colours, including, pastel pink, white, purple or red, to complement any wedding colour theme. However, it is a good idea to check with your wedding venue before purchasing, to ensure they are happy for you to use real rose petals.
Ask your photographer to take lots of images of your wedding flowers on the day. Place your bouquets on pretty props and photograph them individually, to give your images a designer’s edge. Think tables, bench seats, rocks, crates, suitcases, bicycles, etcetera. Also ensure that lots of images are taken of your flowers at your ceremony, on your reception tables and close-ups of your table centrepieces. You will love having these images in your wedding album. We cannot over-emphasise the importance of dealing with a professional floral designer.
Many florists can also assist with your wedding theme and styling. Their knowledge of flowers will enable you to create the best possible decorating outcomes for your budget. Flowers really do bring your wedding to life. Their very presense speaks ‘celebration’ like no other styling element. They bring colour and texture to your day and exude a gentle perfume, creating a magical ambience for all to enjoy.
One little tip we have learned over the years, is to check with your bridal party to ensure they are not allergic to any specific blooms, then ask your florist to exclude those mentioned from your wedding day flowers. You don’t want red noses and swollen eyes in your wedding photos.
